Body and Mind Connection

  • Breathing

At Sydney Counselling Space, we believe that breath retraining can be very beneficial for emotion management and anxiety. Your counsellor may assign breathing exercises to practice. These exercises can help you reconnect with the thinking brain when you become overwhelmed or emotional.

  • Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a mental practice that involves intentionally bringing one's attention to the present moment without judgment. It involves observing thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and the surrounding environment with openness and curiosity. Mindfulness has many benefits, including: enhancing self-awareness, developing emotion regulation and increasing overall well-being.

  • Movement

Movement and exercise have profound effects on emotional well-being due to the complex interplay between physical activity and various physiological, psychological and neurobiological processes. Some of the ways it can positively impact well-being are: enhanced positive mood, reduced stress and anxiety, improved sleep and becoming more attuned to physical sensations.
